BOSSES at a Black Country metal firm are celebrating 50 years in business by holding a charity recycling event to help keep the region’s life-saving helicopter in the skies.

Brierley Hill based Mason Metals Ltd - a leading recycler of non-ferrous and steel scrap metal in the West Midlands - is marking its mammoth milestone by holding a recycle-for-charity day in aid of the Midlands air Ambulance on Saturday November 6.

Bosses have pledged to donate ten per cent of the total value of all domestic scrap metal brought in to its recycling depot and purchased from members of the public on its birthday.

They also plan to support the charity throughout 2011.

Director Andrew Jones said: “With wider appreciation of the green benefits of recycling and rising values of scrap metal, the householder is now as important a recycler as the large manufacturing company.

“The more scrap metal people bring in to us on November 6, the more we’ll pay out and the more money will be raised for Midlands Air Ambulance.”

The company, which also runs a recycling centre in Halesowen, hopes its recycle-for-charity day will raise up to £3,000 for Midlands Air Ambulance.

Bosses also hope the event will demonstrate that recycling household waste and scrap metals can pay dividends, help the environment and pull in the pounds for a life-saving charity.

Anyone wishing to take along scrap metal items - such as cans, batteries or old gas and electrical appliances - can just turn up at Mason’s Brierley Hill depot in Two Woods Lane, Off Mill Street, near Merry Hill, on November 6 between 7.30am and 3pm.
