A TALENTED Sedgley historian, who has been drawing scenes of the village since 1946, is getting set to showcase his work at a church Christmas festival.

Visitors to the All Saints Church Christmas Tree Festival can take a trip down memory lane as 92 year-old Ron Baker has been recording some of the dramatic changes around the church since the Second World War.

Ron, a founder member of Sedgley Local History Society, has been capturing scenes of the area since he left the Army.

One picture shows the old Sunday School building which once stood on the site where Iceland and Lloyds Chemist are, while another drawing shows a tranquil Priory Lane before Sedgley Library and Ladies Walk Health Centre appeared.

Alongside Ron's drawings will be digital photographs taken by photographer Martin Jones showing the same locations today.

The exhibition forms part of the church’s Christmas Tree Festival which runs this weekend and the following weekend December 17 to December 19.

The church will be festively adorned with 25 trees, which have all been paid for and decorated by businesses and school children from the village.

Visitors to the Vicar Street festival can also help decorate a tree themselves by buying a decoration in remembrance of a loved one.

Entrance to the festival is free, but all money raised from donations and refreshments will be split between church funds and BibleLands – a charity which provides Health, Education and Community Development in the Lands of the Bible.
