DUDLEY Sports bosses Tony Gore and Paul Blakeley are toasting the longest unbeaten run of their tenure.

Sports can boast a perfect record stretching back more than two months but there’s just one slight problem - they haven’t played a game!

The 3-0 defeat to Alvechurch in the Worcestershire Senior Urn on November 24 was the last time the club have kicked a ball in anger after being hit hardest of all by the weather.

Saturday’s trip to Wellington was the latest game to fall by the wayside and Gore for one is eager to see the back of miserable Saturdays which have seen him either sat in front of Sky Sports, or worse, watching his beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He said: “We just want to play again.

“You miss it, you don’t mind the odd week off but it feels like the season has ended.

“I’m almost convinced we have been kicked out of the league and nobody has told us!

“But you can’t do anything about the weather, if I could I don’t think I’d be doing this job.”

Supporters can expect a few changes when Sports eventually do line up again. Defender Rob Whiteley has crossed the divide to Dudley Town, Andy Blakeley is injured, while Luke Astley and Sam Pearson are both suspended.

Coming through the door are Danny Smith from Tividale and James Lockhart from Blackheath Town, with James Taylor returning from Bilston.

Meanwhile Gore has successfully fended off an approach from new Cradley Town boss Steve Daniels for Jolly Pheon and Yakubu Nani. The talented duo played under Daniels at Bromsgrove Rovers but, much to Gore’s delight, have expressed a desire to stay at High Ercal Avenue.

If Sports do play at the weekend they will face high-flying Bustleholme and Gore admits tests don’t come much tougher.

He said: “It couldn’t be more difficult but we will give it a go as always.

“It really does feel as though its a different season as it’s so long since we have played.

“It’s a chance for a fresh start. Our unbeaten run is now at ten weeks and we’re determined to make it 11 by Saturday night.”
