A Holly Hall teacher has been commissioned to write a book about fallen soldiers remembered on the area’s war memorial, but needs the help of residents to complete it.

James Taylor, a history teacher at Holly Hall School has been approached by members of St Augustine’s Church to put together a book of remembrance about the soldiers named on the cenotaph in their Hallchurch Road grounds.

The memorial lists the names of men from the Holly Hall and Woodside area who fought in the World Wars, and James needs help to compile the book.

As well as researching their backgrounds and meeting with representatives from the Worcester Regiment, James is appealing for any relatives of the soldiers honoured on the cenotaph to get in touch.

James was approached by parish priest Rev Christine Browne after he led a successful campaign with a group of students at the Scotts Green Close school to raise £1,600 to get a newly discovered soldiers name inscribed onto the memorial .

Church members discovered a war grave in their cemetery of Private Archibald Moore, who was killed in action in Libya in 1942, but found he was not honoured on the cenotaph.

The school researched Archie’s background and tracked down relatives, before holding fundraising events to raise the money needed to get his name on the plaque.

Anyone who has any relatives named on the war memorial is urged to contact James by calling 0772 937 8659 or emailing hollyhallbook@hotmail.com
