DUDLEY Sports joint boss Tony Gore admitted his side were fortunate to pick up all three points after two late goals snatched a 2-1 victory at Wellington.

Trailing 1-0 and looking destined for defeat, Sports grabbed an equaliser from Adam Fincher just as the game was heading into stoppage time. Then, in second of five minutes of injury time, Giuseppe Maffei slotted home for the win.

Gore said: “It was a very good result for us, we were probably a little fortunate to take all three points if I'm honest as it looked as of the home side were going to do enough to take all the points.

“We kept plugging away though and the goalkeeping performance from Sam Pearson was what has probably won it for us in the end as he made some amazing stops to keep us in the game.

“We just kept going and to score two goals in five minute's of injury time, there is no better way of winning it really.

“It just goes to show that you are always in a with a chance of winning a game, even when it looks like it is drifting away from you.”

The result was made even more special by the fact that Sports travelled to Shropshire with just 13 players due to injury and unavailability.

Gore was quick to praise the players which took part in the victory, adding: “Everyone did well and did their job. Although at times we didn't play pretty football, we will always take the points whatever way that we can.”

This Saturday, Sports return home to Hillcrest Avenue as they take on Sporting Khalsa (3pm) in a game which sees Gore’s side starting a run of eight games in a month as they look to move up the West Midlands Premier League table.

Gore said: “We have gotten ourselves back up and running and into the pack now after a pretty poor start.

“It is a very big month for us coming up as we have a number of important fixtures, especially at home. We will just have to see where we are after the end of these run of fixtures as we will be coming up against some good sides.”

Sports are set to be boosted by the return to fitness of Mitch Wilkins and Mark Bache on Saturday, though Shane Priest is likely to be missing for a couple more weeks.

While Sports were celebrating their late comeback, Dudley Town were experiencing the opposite emotion after blowing a winning position against Sporting Khalsa.

Andy Burgess’ side were one up until Leo Brown scored late on to secure a 1-1 draw for Khalsa.

It was even worse for Lye Town, who conceded an qualiser seven minutes into stoppage time as Wednesfield snatched a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

They then went down 3-1 at home to AFC Wulfrunians on Tuesday. Lye host Bromyard this Saturday and then Gornal on Tuesday.
