ANDY Parsons and Danny Ashton both hit two as Tividale demolished sorry Ellesmere Rangers.

Adam Wattley put Tivi in front before Parsons and Jason Chilton capitalised on slack defending at corners to extend the lead.

Ashton made it four just past the half hour and got the fifth when he finished off a nice move early in the second half.

Parsons then got his second and though Anwar Olugbon did pull one back, substitute Leon Taylor restored the six goal difference almost immediately.

If boss Dean Whitehouse had doubts about his side’s showing in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Coventry Sphinx then tonight was the perfect tonic.

Tivi dominated the game from start to finish and at one stage looked like hitting double figures.

Then again, they were certainly given more than a helping hand by the woeful visitors, who seemed more than happy to be out-fought and out-classed. Their backline simply couldn’t cope with the movement of Ashton, Matt Jukes and Lee Chilton among others, while the opening three goals in particular were as soft as any you will see in any league this season.

In the first half they could use the excuse of blustery conditions but their second half showing proved the effects of the weather were minor at best.

After Chilton had sent a Parsons cross wide early on, Dan Griffiths saw a free-kick deflected wide for the visitors.

But the next time Ellesmere got close to troubling home stopper Tim Beech, they were already three down.

Wattley’s opener was a scrappy affair. An Ashton corner was never properly cleared and when the ball was returned into the danger zone the Tivi midfielder struck a weak effort which somehow evaded visiting keeper Dave Maguire and ended up in the net.

Maguire was nearly embarrassed again moments later as Chilton stole in at the corner of the box to win the ball in front of him but the attacker’s heavy first touch saw the chance go begging.

Ashton had a shot deflected narrowly over, before Parsons made it 2-0 on 19 minutes, volleying home at the far post after another weak clearance from a corner fell straight to him.

History repeated itself six minutes later, only this time it was Jason Chilton who gleefully mopped up the chance to beat Maguire.

Three down after 25 minutes, Ellesmere strung together their best move of the game which resulted in Dale Williams firing in a low shot which Beech failed to hold first time.

The game was then effectively put to bed as Ashton added a fourth with the goal of the game. A move which began at the back with Luke Paskin ended with Lee Chilton curling a delightful pass into the path of his unmarked team-mate who fired past Maguire from eight yards out.

The visiting keeper did have something to cheer before the break, saving at close range from Jukes at the far post following another super passing move from the hosts.

But the respite lasted only till the ninth minute of the second period as Ashton scored his second. Lee Chilton took advantage of the acres of space and non-existent pressure to exchange passes with Jukes, before playing in Ashton on the right to once again beat Maguire.

Goal number six saw a return to the scrappy. Maguire saved Jukes’ header from an Ashton corner at close range but Parsons was on hand to quickly bury the rebound.

Ellesmere were being threatened with humiliation and only a fine save from Maguire kept out Williams’ acrobatic effort, while Parsons saw his shot for a hat-trick hacked away.

Then from almost nowhere came an Ellesmere goal. A throw in upfield from skipper Chris Cathrall caught the Tivi defence napping and Olugbon showed great composure to turn inside before firing past Beech.

But the six goal margin was restored in barely 60 seconds as Taylor took the ball almost from the kick-off and advanced unchallenged deep into the box before slotting past Maguire.

The keeper’s nights work was far from done and he denied Taylor a second at close range while Lee Chilton, incredibly not on the scoresheet in such a rout, side-footed an inviting Ashton cross wide.
