Church to mark 80 years
12:00pm Sunday 29th April 2012 in News
A DUDLEY church is holding a week of celebrations to mark its 80th anniversary.
St Francis Church in Laurel Road is hosting a variety of special services and events to celebrate the milestone of the consecration of the building as a parish church.
The celebrations will launch with a typical 1930s style service at 11am on Sunday, before concluding with a modern day worship service at 11am on Sunday, May 13, followed by coffee and cake.
However, the main festivities will take place on the anniversary day itself – Thursday May 10 – with a service of thanksgiving, led by the Bishop of Dudley, the Rt Revd David Walker, followed by cheese, wine and birthday cake.
As well as the special services, an exhibition of memorabilia and photographs marking church events over the last eight decades will be on show.
Open Monday 7 until Friday 11, from 9am until 5pm, visitors are welcome to view the exhibition and see how the church has changed over the years. Refreshments will also be served throughout the week.
If anyone has any pictures or information which can be borrowed as part of the celebrations, contact Rev Judith Oliver on 01384 832164
