A TALENTED Lower Gornal teenager is celebrating after being the first UK resident to scoop a prestigious international scholarship to help further her studies.

Georgina Spittle was awarded the $10,000 scholarship, from global company Timken Aerospace, where her dad, Peter, is a senior quality engineer.

The Timken Company Scholarship is open to all the children of Timken employees from around the world, with 38 scholarships presented each year, ranging from $5,000 to $50,0000.

Chosen recipients are those who have demonstrated achievement inside and outside the classroom, as well extracurricular participation and community involvement.

The 18-year-old, who is head girl at Wolverhampton Girls' High School, is currently sitting her A-levels and is hoping to take up a place at Cambridge University later this year to read anthropology and archaeology.

Georgina,who is the first person in the UK to be awarded a scholarship since the program started in 1959, was presented with the accolade by the Organisational Advancement Manager for the company, aswell as receiving an ipad and other goodies.

Georgina, said: “I am thrilled to be chosen for this scholarship and very grateful to Timken Aerospace for the opportunity.”
