TALENTED artists are showcasing their work at Russells Hall Hospital next week to raise awareness of National Carers Week.

The artists, who are all carers themselves, have spent the last five weeks at Artspace, the Netherton based community arts project, producing work to exhibit at the hospital.

During the event, which will run in the reception area from June 18 – 23, representatives from caring service groups will be on hand to provide information and support to visitors from 9am until 7pm each day.

Some of the groups set to take part include Cancer Support, Dementia Gateway, Carers Forum, Dudley Carers Network and Children and Family Services.

Sharon McGlynn, Carers co-ordinator at Russell’s Hall Hospital, who has organised the event, said: “The theme for Carers Week this year is ‘Health and Wellbeing’ and it’s great that so many organisations have come together to raise awareness about people who become carers in a health setting.

"The art project has been particularly important because it allowed people to come together to talk about their experiences.

"Many carers do not identify themselves as such because they see themselves as a relative or friend, so do not realise that they can receive information and support.

"We hope that our event will encourage even more people to come forward”.
