Cyclist, 12, knocked off bike in serious road smash

A 12 YEAR-old girl received serious head injuries after being knocked off her bike in a collision last night.

The incident between the youngster and a van, happened on the Dudley Southern By-Pass at around 5:55pm.

Police, two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance were sent to the scene and the girl was airlifted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital after receiving an anaesthetic at the scene, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

The road was sealed off until 10pm last night as investigations got underway and police are now appealing for any witnesses to the crash to contact the West Midlands Police's Collision Investigation Unit on 101.
