A DUDLEY-based cancer charity is set to receive a huge funding boost over the next 12 months after being chosen as the Midlands regional charity of the year for chicken restaurant, Nando’s.

All 12 restaurants in the West Midlands will be holding a variety of fundraising activities throughout the coming months in aid of White House Cancer Support, in tribute to staff member, Lorraine Evans, who is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

The food chain is launching their partnership today (Friday 20) with a pink day, where all 400 staff across the region will be wearing pink t-shirts emblazoned with the charity’s name, as well as collecting spare change from diners.

Nando’s at Merry Hill will also be holding a raffle for a hamper of goodies, worth over £100 and are getting set to continue fundraising for the Ednam Road facility at the Rascals Festival at the shopping centre on August 17 and 18.

Meanwhile, Matt Wilson, manager of the Birmingham Bullring restaurant is gearing up for an individual challenge of his own to raise extra funds.

Matt will be cycling from the southern most Nando’s in Plymouth, to the furthest northern restaurant, 600 miles away in Aberdeen in spring next year, stopping off at as many Nando’s as possible.

Chris Barron, Manager of The White House, said: “We are very grateful for all the effort the staff are going to in order to raise money for a very worthwhile local charity.

“All money raised will ensure we can continue to provide emotional support, practical help and information for people with cancer and those who care about them in and around the Dudley Borough.”
