Woman airlifted to hospital after Sedgley road smash

AN elderly woman was airlifted to hospital today (Thursday) after being hit by a van in Sedgley .

The incident happened on Sandyfields Road at around 10.55am this morning.

The woman suffered serious injuries to her head and hand in the crash and was treated at the scene before being flown to the region’s major trauma centre at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital by the Midlands Air Ambulance which was dispatched from Cosford.

An ambulance and rapid response vehicle were also sent to the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “On arrival at the scene crews found an elderly woman who had been in collision with a van.

“Due to the serious nature of her injuries - the doctor, who was travelling on board the air ambulance, gave the woman an anaesthetic at the scene.”
