Shane Watson, aged 23, was found with serious head injuries in an alleyway Springfield Grove in the early hours of Saturday morning.
He was taken to hospital, where he later died. Since his death well-wishes have left dozens of bouquets of colourful flowers close to the spot where Shane was found.
Attached to a tree loved ones have also left messages of condolence, photographs, cigarettes and miniature bottles of Jack Daniels in tribute to the former Dormston School pupil.
Friends and family have also launched a petition to get the alleyway where Shane was found, closed off, claiming the area is a magnet for anti-social behaviour.
A Facebook page, called Shane Watson (1989-2012) has already attracted more than 1,700 fans, with hundreds of messages of tributes posted.
Abby Mason wrote: “Born premature you fought for your life at such a small age for it to be torn back away in the most indecent degrading way. Heartbreaking. Everyone is behind your mom and family with the strength to get through this devastating time, remember the happy memories & celebrate the short life you lived. RIP SHANE x”
While Kay Bowen commented: “Its so difficult to express the sadness you feel when someone so young is taken so tragically and so pointlessly. You grew into a lovely lad shane, you were only the same age as my lad and went through school together and I can't imagine what your mom and family are going through, my thoughts are very much with them. The sadness is overwhelming and I just hope justice Is done for you. R.I.P Shane, you so didn't deserve this xxxx”
