A DUDLEY man is gearing up for the adventure of a lifetime by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for charity.
Shaun Hemmings from Attingham Drive is undertaking the massive feat in October to raise funds for Scope – which supports disabled people throughout the UK.
The 25-year-old was spurred on to sign up for the challenge after hearing about numerous government funding cuts for disability groups.
Shaun said: “I wanted to do something for Scope as they are not a really known charity like others and there is always lots in the news about how disabled people are having a hard time at the moment as they are not receiving the same amount of funds they’ve had before.
“I decided to sign up for this because I like challenging myself and pushing myself as far as I can. I didn’t want to raise just a few hundred pounds.”
Shaun, who is a manager at Sainsbury’s in Sutton Coldfield is hoping to raise between £3,500 and £5,000 for Scope and as well as personal sponsorship and cake sales at work, Shaun is hosting two fundraising events at the Station Hotel in Dudley, with the first this Sunday.
Partygoers are invited to don school uniforms and turn back the clock at the back to school all-day disco, which is running from 2pm until late.
Tickets cost £3.50 for those wearing school uniform or £4 for those not, with entertainment provided by a DJ.
A second fundraiser at the Castle Hill hotel will be a sponsored zumbathon, led by instructor Bernard Moseley on Sunday September 2, starting at 2pm.
Entrance is £3.50.
Tickets for both events can be paid for on the door or in advance through justgiving.com/HemmingsShaun where Shaun can also be sponsored.
Payment and donations can also be made by mobile phone through Shaun’s justgiving page by texting EMMO50 followed by the amount to 70070 and then entering your name and Shaun Hemmings party when prompted.
