TWO volunteers have issued a final call for nominations for the borough’s unsung heroes.
Dudley Volunteer Awards is set to take place in October at Brierley Hill Civic Hall, where the event will celebrate the extraordinary things carried out by ordinary residents each day in their communities.
Volunteers Sarah Freeman from Kingswinford and Halesowen resident Mick Mielczarek both received awards at last year’s ceremony and have joined forces to remind residents that time is running out to put forward any names, with the deadline falling on Monday September 3.
Mick, aged 61, volunteers at Halesowen Athletic and Cycling Club by tending the grounds and coaching around 40 youngsters each week. He was thanked for his continuing service with the Sporting Champion award last year.
Meanwhile 25-year-old Sarah received the highly commended Young Volunteer of Year award for her work in setting up the meals on wheels service The Gourmet.
In the two years since setting up her business, she has gone from operating from her home kitchen to setting up at Wrens Nest Community Centre in Dudley.
Nomination forms are still available from borough libraries and Dudley Council Plus and can be downloaded from dudleycvs.org.uk
