Heroes of the skies to be honoured next weekend

THE heroes of the skies will be honoured with a special parade in Dudley this weekend.

Dudley Council is paying tribute to the Battle of Britain on Sunday with a service at Top Church, a parade by the borough Air Training Corps cadets and the laying of wreaths at the cenotaph in Ednam Road.

Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Melvyn Mottram, said: “This is an ideal opportunity to come out and show your support for the armed forces, and remember the huge sacrifices these people made for us in the Battle of Britain.

“It is important we never forget the role of the Royal Air Force and the men and women who make it so special.”

The parade will set off from Priory Road at 11am and will make its way along New Street, Market Place and High Street, before the service takes place at St Thomas and St Luke’s Church at 11.30am.

Following the service the parade will continue past the Council House in Priory Road, where the mayor and a representative from RAF Cosford will receive a salute.

The event will end at the Ednam Road cenotaph where a period of silence will take place.
