Farmers and fire crews tackle major grass blaze in Himley

FARMERS were called in to help create a firebreak at a stubble fire on land close to Himley Hall .

Staffordshire Fire Service was called at 4.05pm on Sunday (September 9) to a large straw and grass fire at Park Farm, Himley Lane, which spread quickly as flames were fanned by strong winds.

Farmers from the area used tractors to move stubble out of the path of the fire to halt its spread, while around 60 fire officers from Staffordshire and the neighbouring West Midlands brigade fought the blaze.

Fire fighting continued at the scene until 8.46pm.
