AN incredible comeback saw Dudley Kingswinford record their first win of the season.

The Heathbrook side overturned a 16 point deficit in the final 20 minutes to stun the visitors.

Lions are a strong and competitive side but it was largely DK’s poor discipline and even poorer lineout performance that had gifted their visitors so much territory and possession resulting in Lion’s substantial 24-8 advantage deep into the second half.

The introduction of Al Francis , Joe Carpenter and Gareth Bown in the second period saw DK play with new found urgency and drive that Lions were simply unable to match.

Leicester went 3-0 up after seven minutes when DK were penalised for holding on, centre John Boden stroking over the kick.

The lead was increased on 10 minutes when flanker Tom Morris was easily shunted over for an unconverted try from a five metre lineout catch and drive.

DK pulled three points back with a Jon Higgins penalty after 14 minutes to make it 3-8 but the home side seemed strangely lethargic and Boden kicked another penalty for Lions.

It wasn’t until the 23rd minute DK managed their first meaningful attack. A fine flowing backs move instigated by Nick Murphy gave Duncan Chance a little space. It was enough as the pacy winger rounded the last two defenders at speed to score in the corner.

But the hosts slipped again, poor discipline allowing Boden two more penalties as the Lions went in at half-time 17-8 up, a yellow card for Pete Knight capping amiserable first half for the hosts.

A man short, DK took the game to their opponents early in the second half but a loose pass was intercepted by John Lowdon, who raced 75 metres to score and leave the hosts staring down the barrel.

Finally they began to click through the gears. Bown, on for an out of sorts Jon Higgins, went through the narrowest of gaps to score and put DK back in the hunt.

More was to follow when Jimmy Gore set up Stefan Shillingford to score another and pull the hosts within two.

The Lions tried to hit back but with ten minutes to go DK went in front for the first time with the try of the game.

Pete Knight stripped the ball from the Lions attacking forward and fed Shillingford, who set up Chris Perry to dash 65 metres to the line.

Bown converted made it 29-24 and he then added a further penalty to give them an eight point cushion.

Lowden scored his second try of the game for the visitors to ensure a nervous finish but DK held out to grab the win.
