Free driving safety course for the over 50s
8:20am Monday 24th September 2012 in News
DUDLEY’s older drivers are being invited to take part in a free driving course next month.
The course, funded by the West Midlands Road Safety Partnership, is designed for people aged 50 and over to improve their safety, awareness and confidence.
During the session, on Saturday October 6, participants will review the Highway Code and look at general driving skills, before receiving a free information pack which will include the current code.
Places are limited and are allocated on a first come basis by calling Dudley Council on 01384 815433 or emailing james.whalen@dudley.gov.uk.
The course will run from 9.30am to 12.30pm and participants should meet at the Age UK Dudley Activity Centre, located between Sainsburys and Argos at the Merry Hill Shopping Centre at 9.15am.
Councillor Judy Foster , cabinet member for transport, said: “This course is part of the full of life festival, which encourages Dudley’s residents to stay active and independent for as long as possible.
“Last year 620 drivers from the West Midlands aged 60 and over were killed or injured on the roads and we hope this course will help older people to increase their driving confidence.”
