A LOWER Gornal school has been awarded £10,000 to help children get involved in sport.
Ellowes Hall Sports College was donated the money by HealthDesire, which was raised through The Health Lottery.
The Stickley Lane school is working alongside the Youth Sport Trust to deliver its project, which will see a team of 12 healthy lifestyle coaches trained and deployed across the borough, who will work with children from 12 primary schools in providing physical activity coaching as well as nutritional and lifestyle advice.
As part of the project, the school has also developed an additional team of 14 volunteers, who assist the healthy lifestyle coaches in their work.
Chris Lunn, spokesperson for HealthDesire, says: “Sport offers a great opportunity to meet people and build new friendships. It helps people to find confidence in all areas of their life. We hope this project will make sport more accessible for young people.”
