Public invited to nominate star police officers for new awards

PEOPLE across the borough are invited to vote in a new awards scheme launched by West Midlands Police to recognise and reward dedicated members of the police force and key community members.

The new annual Diamond Awards will allow the public, police officers and staff to highlight individuals and teams that have contributed significantly to making the region a safer place to live, work and visit.

Anyone can make a nomination for police officers, police staff, PCSOs or special constables across a range of ten categories.

There is also a Community 'Thank You' award to recognise an individual or group that has worked closely with police to make a real difference to the community.

Chief Constable Chris Sims said: "We are delighted to be able to launch these brand new awards that will allow officers, staff and members of the community to recognise deserving members of the police family.

"Each and everyday there are numerous examples of fantastic work, acts of bravery and people going above and beyond the call of duty; delivering a level of service that friends and family would be proud of.

"We really hope that the Diamond Awards will highlight some of these fantastic examples, allowing us to formally recognise these achievements in an award ceremony early next year."

Nominations will close on Friday November 16. The winners will then be invited to attend the inaugural Diamond Awards ceremony on January 23 2013 where they will be presented with their awards.
