A DUDLEY charity cafe which works with adults and young people with learning difficulties has been given a helping hand by Debenhams at Merry Hill.

The Retreat Cafe, which is run every week day at St Francis Church Parish Centre in Poplar Crescent, has been donated the department store’s redundant crockery from its restaurant, which has recently been kitted out with all-new items.

The community cafe, which is part of Kingswinford-based Lunch on the Run, provides NVQ training in catering and retail to the adults, enabling them to handle money, prepare food and serve customers breakfasts, lunches and snacks.

Paul Jaunzems, Chief Executive of Lunch on the Run, said: “I'm delighted with this generous donation from Debenhams, which will directly benefit local people with a learning disability. It's a great example of a big-hearted large business giving a helping hand to a local community-based project.”
