A 33 YEAR-old Netherton man carried out a "revenge" attack on a former colleague after he was fired for fighting with him at work, a court has heard.

Sarbjit Singh, of New Road, went with a number of other men to the home of his former friend, where the man was punched and struck several times with a mirror.

Judge Amjad Nawaz told Singh: "You got involved in a fight and you were dismissed from your employers. You went out drinking with your friends and you were festering no doubt from what happened.

"You went to his flat with your friends for only one purpose - to exact revenge. This was a sustained attack. It only lasted for a short time but, to your victim, it must have seemed an inordinate time."

The judge said it was fortunate the victim did not suffer serious injuries and added: "He was still left scared, bruised and battered."

Singh admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and was given a 12 month jail term suspended for 18 months.

He was further placed on supervision for 18 months, told to carry out 100 hours unpaid work in the community and to pay his victim £300 compensation.

At Wolverhampton Crown Court, Mr Anthony Potter prosecuting said the two men had worked together at a bakery but fell out and it was just days later that Singh went to his home.

Mr Potter said: “The purpose of the visit was the attack. There was no polite chit-chat before the attack took place.

Mr Thom Dyke defending said Singh, a man of previous good character, accepted it must have been a most unpleasant experience for the victim.

He said it was accepted that Singh, a father-of-one whose wife is expecting their second child, committed the offence in revenge.
