THE newly-appointed Bishop of Dudley chose the Black Country Foodbank in Halesowen as one of his first ports of call to familiarise himself with organisations in the area.

The Rev Canon Graham Usher takes over from Right Rev David Walker, who has moved to Manchester.

Although Rev Graham will not be ordained bishop until March and begin his public ministry in the Diocese of Worcester until after Easter, he made time to take food to the charity and chat to volunteers.

Married, with children, the 43-year-old was ordained in 1996 and is currently Rector and Lecturer of Hexham Abbey in the Diocese of Newcastle, where he was involved in opening a foodbank Prior to this, he worked in inner city Teesside and has also spent time living and working in Ghana, Africa.
