BOOKWORMS will receive advice on crime prevention when they visit borough libraries this week, albeit in slightly hushed voices.

Librarians across the borough are making an exception for Dudley police officers and allowing them break the silence to speak about home and personal safety.

Police will be at Stourbridge Library tomorrow (Wednesday August 27), Dudley Library on Thursday (August 28) and Sedgley Library on Friday (August 29) from 10am to 2pm, to issue top tips and encouraging Neighbourhood Watch membership.

Officers haven't forgotten about residents who choose to take advantage of Dudley’s mobile library service, as crime prevention leaflets will be given out when books are delivered to their doorstep.

Sarah Nixon, Dudley's crime and vulnerability officer, said: "The project has been running throughout July and August and has been really well received.

"Generally the people who make the most of the services offered by libraries are new mums, elderly residents and school children, so we’ve been able to tailor our advice to the crime types that can affect these groups, while listening to their individual concerns."
