TWO Stourbridge hairdressers proved a carrot crop above the rest - by dressing up as a pair of carrots and cavorting down Birmingham's busy Broad Street.

Their creation caused a considerable wave of interest, but it was all for a good cause.

The hairdressers, Mandy Woodall and Sandra Amoroso from Headroom in Enville Street, were raising money and awareness of a blindness condition known as Retinitis Pigmentosa.

It's a condition close to Mandy's heart as she has two nephews who suffer from the sight defect.

Mandy had previously raised £1,800 for the condition after staging a barn dance two years ago.

She added another £1,200 to the cause from her carrot walk after raising funds from customers and passers-by.

The pair paraded along a six mile route starting and finishing at the University of Birmingham.

Mandy added: "It's known as the 'carrot walk' so we decided to dress up and look the part. It caused quite a stir.

"My nephew's Joseph and Zac used to live in Quarry Bank but have now moved to Elgin in Scotland where they can enjoy a more calmer pace of life and attend a mainstream school."
