DUDLEY’S transport boss is appealing for people to drive carefully and take care where they park as sub-zero weather rolls into the Black Country.

Dudley Council gritting teams will be out tonight (Wednesday January 28) treating the borough’s 300 miles of roads.

Although forecasters expect the region to avoid the worst of the winter weather predicted to hit the UK tonight, temperatures are still due to drop below frezing.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, Dudley cabinet member for transportation, said: "Our gritters will be out tonight as we’re expecting a cold snap, but motorists still need to drive carefully. Also, we would ask people to park considerately along side roads to allow gritters to get along them.

“We have also made sure our network of 1,000 grit bins across the borough are well stocked for people to use. For more information on gritting visit our Weather Watch page via www.dudley.gov.uk"
