HISTORIC comedy She Stoops to Conquer will be the final play on Dudley Little Theatre's 2014/15 calendar.

The Oliver Goldsmith comedy will be presented at Netherton Arts Centre, Northfield Road, Netherton, from Wednesday May 13 to Saturday May 16.

Performances start at 7.30pm each night.

The action centres on wealthy countryman Mr Hardcastle (played by Tony Stamp) who hopes to marry his daughter Kate (Jane Williams) to Charles Marlow (James Silvers), the son of a rich Londoner with whom he is acquainted.

The trouble is poor Charles is terribly nervous around rich upper class women but has no such trouble around less well-born women - so Kate hatches a plan to pretend to be a servant to 'conquer' her intended.

Society spokesman Chris Ridgeway said: "The final play of the season may well be 240 years old but its comedy has lasting appeal and characters that will be long remembered.

"Some of the action has the distinct character of a modern day Carry On sitcom with Hogarthian undertones."

Tickets, priced £7 (£6 concessions, with a ten per cent discount for group bookings), are available from Chris Ridgeway on 01384 872583 or 07582318017, Gary Flavell Butcher, Cradley Road, Netherton, or ordered through the website www.dudleylittletheatre.org
