A WOMAN was left "extremely distressed" after being sexually assaulted while walking home in Stourbridge after a night out.

Police were called out to Green Street at around 2.50am on Sunday June 28 after the 25-year-old woman was attacked by man with a foreign accent and thought to be in his early 20s.

Officers say the offender attempted to talk to his victim and followed her for a short distance before pulling her into a nearby car park where he sexually assaulted her.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Chisholm said: "We are working hard to find the person responsible for this assault and we are examining CCTV from the area to see if we can establish the identity of the attacker.

"Understandably, the woman has been left extremely distressed by what has happened and she is being supported by specially trained officers at this time.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and remembers seeing a white woman in a pink top and white jeans and, crucially, can offer a description of anyone with her, to call us."

DCI Chisholm also issued a warning to people to make sure they plan how they are going to get home after a night out.

He said where possible people should try to pre-book a taxi and avoid walking home alone but if it is necessary to walk be sure to keep to well-lit routes and carry a personal attack alarm.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
