NOMINATIONS are now open for next year’s Dudley Youth Awards which aim to recognise and celebrate the achievements of the borough’s youth.

Young people, aged between 11 and 19, or up to 25 for those with a disability, can be nominated for seven awards, which include creative arts, sport, contribution to school or further education and an environmental award for making the community a greener place.

This year there are also two inspiration awards, one for overcoming adversity and another for inspiring others by being a role model.

There is one group award for community, charity and voluntary work and an award for inspirational adults who have made a real difference to the lives of young people who they work with.

Now in their twelfth year, the awards are organised by Dudley Youth Council, an elected group of youngsters who represent their peers, alongside Dudley Council’s youth service.

Councillor Ian Cooper, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “Each year we have some absolutely amazing nominations from truly inspirational young people.

“We hear some truly moving stories of young people overcoming real adversity, as well as seeing examples of young people who are making huge contributions to their communities.

“These awards ensure that the most deserving young people are recognised and that their efforts are celebrated by everyone at the awards ceremony.

“I would urge people to think about any young person or group that has contributed to community or family through their hard work and nominate them for one of the categories.”

Nominations are now open until Friday, December 4, and can be made by completing an online form from www.dudley.gov.uk/youthawards, or by calling Dudley Youth Services on 01384 815173.
