THE driver of a 4x4 who stopped at the scene of a fatal Stourbridge crash last night (November 29) is being urged to come forward by police.

Officers were called the junction of High Street, Amblecote, and Brettell Lane at about 6.50pm last night following reports that a car had hit a man before driving away from the scene. A 66-year-old was treated by paramedics but despite their best efforts died a short time later.

A 25-year-old man, who was the driver of a red Vauxhall Corsa that hit the man, was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving, and was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Now officers want to speak to another driver who may be able to help them with their enquiries.

Sergeant Alan Wood, from the force’s collision investigation unit, said: “The road was very busy last night and we are appealing to the driver of a black 4x4 who was in the area at the time of the collision to come forward.

“The driver would have been turning into Brettell Lane from High Street, Amblecote, at around the time of the collision.

“The 4x4 driver did stop initially at the scene but left a short time later. We are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

“Our thoughts remain with the family of the man who lost his life and specialist officers continue to liaise with them.”

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call West Midlands Police on 101, or alternatively, people can leave information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
