FUNDRAISERS were able to serve up a treat as politics came together with poppadoms at a recent Stourbridge charity curry night.

Earlier this month, Norton Labour Party teamed up with Wollaston restaurant East One to host the fundraising evening in aid of the Mayor of Dudley’s charity appeal.

The evening was deemed a success, with £150 being donated towards the mayoral fundraising tally.

Raj Shah, owner of East One, said: “We are really pleased to be able to help the mayor with this event and glad that it raised so much for his chosen charities that help local people in need.”

Norton Labour Party spokesperson, Clive Rebbeck, said: “It’s always nice to be able to help others, and this event was a great way for Norton Labour Party to get together and help local charities at the same time.”

Each year, thousands of pounds are raised for the first citizen’s supported charities, and this year Councillor Steve Waltho, Mayor of Dudley, is collecting funds for five local causes.

He added: “It was a great night and I am really grateful to East One owner Raj Shah and his team for their hospitality.

“Their contribution to the local community with this event is one of hundreds across Dudley borough that have raised thousands of pounds for my charity appeal.”

This year, the mayor is splitting the funds between The Hope Centre, Halesowen, The What Centre, Stourbridge, More Mascots Please, Brierley Hill, Leukaemia Unit Appeal Fund, at Russells Hall Hospital, and the West Midlands branch of Lupus UK based in Coseley.
