BUDDING linguists at a Rowley Regis school drew on their creative talent to submit illustrated story ideas which will be used in a new bedtime story book.

Forty seven pupils at Highfields Primary School were among more than 1,500 nationwide to take part in the competition and are now official ‘collaborators’ in a unique children’s tale, starting in English and ending in a different language.

Pupils were asked to suggest what should happen next in the story, draw and write their ideas – which had to include at least one word in another language.

The creators of the book aim to make learning a language as easy as reading a story and Highfields was awarded a variety of language resources to support the children’s continued learning.

Competition co-organisers Alex Somervell and Jonny Pryn, of One Third Stories, said the pupils had produced some “awesome” entries.

“What we really want to do is inspire children to love languages and involve them in making this happen,” added Mr Somervell.
