THE Black Country Housing Group is building a state-of-the-art residential care home in Halesowen.

The organisation held a ‘topping out’ ceremony this week at Gower Gardens, on Kent Road, which saw BCHG’s chief executive, Amanda Tomlinson place the last tile on the roof.

The premises, which opens in September this year, will provide a home for older people with care and support needs.

Set within landscaped sensory gardens for residents and their visitors to enjoy, the home will provide specialist dementia care and has 66 fully en-suite bedrooms with modern facilities such as Wi-Fi and flat screen TVs.

The property has been built on behalf of BCHG by LNT Carehome developments and marks the first partnership between the two organisations.

BCHG has a longstanding track record delivering care across Birmingham and the Black Country.

As well as providing care to older people, it also currently manages six independent living schemes for people aged over 55 and supported living services for people with learning disabilities.

The construction of Gower Gardens is a milestone for BCHG, representing its first purpose built new care home development.

Members of the BCHG team including chief executive, Amanda Tomlinson were present at the ceremony.

Miss Tomlinson said: “Gower Gardens will become a cornerstone of the community providing much-needed high-quality care for local people in a state–of- the art building. By providing specialist care and facilities for people with dementia we hope to meet a range of local needs.”

The formal opening of Gower Gardens in September will bring further social benefits by creating 50 new jobs for local people.

BCHG is set to hold a series of public open days in August to allow local people to view the new facilities.
