TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular Mount Pleasant Primary School teacher who has retired from her job of 35 years.

Helen D’Arcy marked her final book and delivered her last lesson at the Quarry Bank school today (Thursday, July 21) as she starts her well-earned retirement.

During her time at the school, Helen taught throughout key stage two, nurturing many generations of pupils, some of whom have gone on to become parents and even grand-parents to children who have since passed through her busy classroom.

She has been praised by colleagues for being a “constant creative and inspirational force” at the centre of the school, who delivered “exciting and informative” lessons in all subject areas.

A school spokeswoman said: “Helen’s enthusiasm and energy has enriched the lives of countless children, many of whom still keep in touch with her, and she will be greatly missed by staff and pupils alike.

“Her theatrical, expressive style has motivated pupils of all ages and provided a plethora of memorable experiences where real learning has taken place and pupils have had great fun.

“Pupils have gone on to become happy, confident, successful adults; a testament to her care and passion for the profession.

“Helen has made an immeasurable and colourful contribution to our school and her legacy will remain for many years to come.”
