FORMER Halesowen Golf Club president Brian Stokes has taken over at the helm of the town’s Rotary Club.

The retired engineer was made president of the Halesowen and Rowley Regis club in the presence of district governor Peter Roberts.

Mr Stokes, aged 74, said he will use his year to support the club in staging its annual community day - the Victorian Fair, and its two major fundraisers – the Black Country Run and the Santa Sleigh.

“We raise around £10,000 a year from those events for charity, mostly supporting local good causes,” he said.

Mr Stokes said the club was “healthy” with more than 30 members, but more were always welcome.

Halesowen Town FC is a corporate member and he would like to encourage more such members.
