FORMULA 1 fans can experience the high-octane world of motor-racing during an open day at a Cradley Heath automotive company this weekend.

On Saturday Triple R Auto Design, which opened its Peacock Industrial Estate factory in the spring, is giving fans the chance to try a 3D F1 simulator, sit in a replica of Michael Schumacher's title winning Ferrari and see a collection of classic cars.

The company makes F1 inspired products which include transforming F1 car parts into furniture and car accessories in team colours.

Triple R was founded by Black Country rallying star Steve Griffiths who enjoyed an 11 year career between 1990 and 2001 in motor sport as a driver, mechanic and team leader.

Mr Griffiths said: "We opened our factory earlier this year and wanted to give people the chance to have a look around and see what we are doing for manufacturing in the Black Country.

"There will be free beer, wine and cakes and a prize for the person fastest lap on our 3D F1 simulator which is the closest you can get to driving in F1 without being in a car."

He added: "There will also be F1 products to buy and our own twist on F1 products as we produce desks, shelves, coat hangers, lamp stands in team colours."

Mr Griffiths also runs vintage car restoration business Severn Classics from his Providence Street base and visitors during the open day will see the painstaking detail which goes into bringing vehicles back to their former glory.

The open day is between 10.30am and 4pm at Triple R and Severn Classics, Peacock Industrial Estate, Providence Street, Cradley Heath on Saturday.
