An expert in anxiety disorders and depression in older people is launching a new clinic in Halesowen.

Dr Raafat Mishriky is a consultant in old age psychiatry and dementia who specialises in dementias and memory problems at West Midlands Hospital.

The clinic, which takes place twice a month on the second and fourth Monday (4pm-6pm), will provide initial assessments leading to treatment for anxiety disorders and depression.

Patients and family members will have the opportunity to discuss their own personal worries or concerns they have for loved ones with Dr Mishriky in private consultation slots.

Dr Mishriky has a special interest in unusual experiences in older adults such as hallucinations, unusual beliefs and challenging behaviours.

He is fluent in English and Arabic and can deliver appointments in either language to suit individual patients. He can also work with interpreters for any other languages.

Self referrals for appointments are accepted but a referral from the GP is the recommended process.

He said: “This service is open to people who want to find out more about and be treated for anxiety disorders, depression and a range of different dementias and memory problems.

“All of these conditions are on the rise in the modern day world so people need to know that help is at hand locally.”

Dr Mishriky added: “I’m looking forward to working at West Midlands Hospital to deliver this new service.

“There are many people across the West Midlands region who are affected by dementia, anxiety disorders or depression and this service will give them speedy access to a diagnosis and an appropriate course of treatment.”
