BEWARE what you are eating down Oldbury Rep next month as The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband is being served up in the Studio.

After the refurbishment of the studio theatre the return of Studio productions will be a welcome feature at the Rep this season.

Oldbury Rep press officer Alan Wood said: "Our first production is an unusual slice of comedy by Midlands author Debbie Issit's The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband.

"Kenneth and Hilary have been married for 19 years but Kenneth leaves her for the younger Laura but the problem is that Laura can’t cook and ageing teddy-boy Kenneth starts losing his attraction for her.

"So when Hilary invites Kenneth and Laura for an anniversary dinner, Kenneth readily accepts unaware that revenge is not the only thing on the menu! A cordon bleu comedy for those who like their humour rich and dark."

Playwright Debbie Isitt was born in 1966 in Birmingham, and went to Lordswood Girls School before training as an actor in Coventry and has gone on to be a top film director.

Her trilogy of Christmas comedy films Nativity, starring Martin Freeman, Nativity Two: Danger in the Manger, starring David Tennant, Nativity Three: Dude, Where’s My Donkey? have been a box office winning labour of love.

The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband was first produced by the Snarling Beasties Theatre Company formed by Debbie Isitt and Mark Kilmurry.

Starring the pair it was first performed at Warwick Arts Centre before transferring to the Royal Court Theatre in October 1991.

The production runs from Monday, October 10 until Saturday, September 15.

All performances start at 7.30pm, Studio tickets are £8 and all are unreserved and there is no wheelchair access to the theatre.
