BOOKWORMS from Corngreaves Academy have launched a new national competition for primary children to think up ideas which could change the world for the better.

United Ideas is run by United Learning, the schools group which Corngreaves Academy is a part of.

It is open to Key Stage two pupils (children aged 7-11) across the country from United Learning schools, which include both state academies and independent schools.

Corngreaves Academy hosted the first roadshow event to kick off the competition.

Pupils were visited by staff from the company 7billionideas who gave an inspirational presentation on how they could use their imaginations and creativity to make a difference.

The children will now work in small groups to come up with ‘world-changing’ ideas to make a positive difference in their local and global communities, in the hope of being shortlisted for the competition final in February.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to play a part in making a difference to the world they live in. It will provide them with the opportunity to work creatively, problem solve, work collaboratively and build essential character traits for their later life.” Mrs Drinkwater, Assistant Head Teacher.

“I think it’s quite good because it gives people opportunities to express their ideas and use team work and communication to achieve something that started as one simple idea.” Connor Hassan, Year 6 Head Boy.

Victoria Russell-Robbins, from United Learning, said: “We are very pleased to be launching #UnitedIDEAS2017, which will give our primary pupils a head start with vital communication and entrepreneurial skills that will be highly beneficial throughout their time at school and beyond. Alongside our other group-wide initiatives at United Learning, this competition will help children build their confidence and develop their imaginations whilst working with peers from across the country."
