RESIDENTS in Stourbridge’s Old Quarter have been reporting a worrying spate of vandalism in which tyres have been slashed and car windows smashed.

Concerned residents in Clifton Street, Brook Street and surrounding streets have been voicing their concerns about incidents over the last few days and police have confirmed they have been alerted to 11 cars that have suffered damage in the area between Saturday January 21 and Tuesday February 21.

Three cars reportedly had wing mirrors ripped off on Heath Street at 11.40pm on Sunday night.

There have also been reports of tyres being slashed in Clifton Street and Brook Street and car windows being smashed on other streets in the Old Quarter.

Wollaston and Stourbridge town councillor Nic Barlow said: "It's extremely worrying and frustrating in equal measures. We need additional resources from West Midlands Police to assist our local policing team if this spate of burglaries around Stourbridge continues."

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Although there have been no reports of stolen vehicles, tyres have been slashed and wing mirrors have been knocked off.

"However, it is believed there are more unreported cases in and around Wheeler Street and the Old Quarter."

Police say they have now stepped up patrols in the area and they are urging anyone who has had their car damaged to report it by calling the 101 number.
