A WORDSLEY pub has a weekend of family fun and a George themed record attempt lined up to celebrate St George’s Day.

The Glassworks, off the A491 at Audnam, will have facepainting, balloon modelling, a DJ and a special guest appearance from Peppa Pig this weekend.

Part of the Generous George family of pubs, the pub has also joined forces with 23 others across the UK to try and set a new record on St George’s Day.

During the weekend of April 22 and 23, the pub chain hopes to set a new record for the largest gathering of people named George across all of its sites - so Georges, Georgies, Georginas, Georgias and even Mr and Mrs Georges are invited to show up and be treated to a freebie.

Assistant manager Carol Gilbert said: "Each adult George showing proof of their name that day will get a pint, glass of wine or soft drink of their choice, while young Georges will get a free ice-cream as a thank you for taking part and helping us to set a new Generous George record.

“We did the record attempt for the first time last year and as a group of 13 pubs, managed to get 172 different Georges together to mark the day. Over the past year, the Generous George chain has really grown, so this year, there will be 24 different sites marking the occasion."

The weekend event will also see the pub's giant chair transformed into a throne which staff members have constructed their very own castle around where youngsters can play at being Kings and Queens.

Carol added: “We’re going to make a real fuss this weekend. All of our staff will be dressed up, and we’ll have colouring competitions and fun activities for the family.

“We’ll also have Peppa Pig joining us on Saturday and a DJ from 9pm. Throughout the weekend we’ll be raising money for the Down’s Syndrome Association."
