A HALESOWEN hit and run victim was given a unique send off at his funeral when one of his closest friends performed a traditional Maori dance.

Darrin Sutton, who is from New Zealand, broke out into the ceremonial Haka at the funeral service for Benjamin Morse, held on Friday (July 14).

Mr Morse, who lived in Yew Tree Road, died after he was hit by a car at around 12.15am on May 1 while walking down Cherry Street.

Hundreds of mourners dressed in football shirts turned out at St John’s Church to celebrate the life of the 36-year-old.

Mr Sutton’s fiancé Rachel Connor captured the Haka performance on video and said Mr Morse would have been delighted.

She said: “We were both very good friends with Ben and he would often come around to our house.

“Ben used to love it when he did the Haka – in fact, he would beg him to do it and Darrin would get right up in his face as he did so. Just amazing.

“He would have been so proud of Darrin, just like I am.”
