Glassmaker busy blowing red noses for Comic Relief

A GLASS maker at a Wordsley museum is busy blowing noses to raise money for Comic Relief.

Charlotte Hughes-Martin, the Red House Glass Cone’s resident glass maker is blowing glass red noses in time for the charity fundraiser taking place on Friday March 13 and Saturday March 14.

Studio tenants at the Camp Hill cone are also all busy creating their own gimmicky gifts in aid of the nationwide appeal.

Artist Susan Delahaye is producing Connor the Cone postcards; the Natural Soapworks have created Red Nose bath bombs; Rebecca Handy has crafted corsages and bookmarks; and Saz’s Ceramics is preparing to offer painting sessions with a Red Nose theme.

The cone, which has been temporarily renamed the ‘Red Nose Glass Cone’, will also be encouraging visitors to put their hands in their pockets to support this worthy cause.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, Dudley’s cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “The studio holders and staff have put a lot of their own time into the various Comic Relief activities they’re doing on Friday and Saturday and I wish them every success with their fundraising efforts.”

Sarah King, owner of the Natural Soapworks, said: “We’ve had a lot of fun working together to fundraise for Comic Relief. All the Comic Relief products are hand made by us here at the cone and will not only raise money for the charity but also bring pleasure to whoever’s doing the buying.

“There’s also a Red Nose Glass Cone themed trail for the children, with a donation to Comic Relief to take part, and there’ll be glassmaking demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday too.”

The fundraiser coincides with the cone’s Mother’s Day craft market (March 14 and 15) so visitors to the site will be able to do something funny for money and pick up something nice for their mum too.

Children can take part in one of the special Mother’s Day craft activities for £1 and take home whatever they make.

The cone is open Monday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm, admission is free.
