This Weekend is the British Grand Prix and with Exclusive detail of how the Williams Team operates this Weekend please read on. BRITISH GRAND PRIX PRACTICE Objectives P1 • Validation of new aero components • Set-up work Objectives P2 • Set-up work • Tyre evaluations Sam Michael, Technical Director We’ve had a good day evaluating set-up and tyres, as well as testing the new parts that we’ve brought here. The upgrades all worked as expected, including the exhaust blown diffuser, so we will be keeping that on both cars for the rest of the weekend. Nico’s car had a gearbox oil leak between sessions which cost him some time at the start of the second practice session. Rubens Barrichello Runs P1: Run 1: New Prime (1 lap, install), Run 2: Used Prime (7 laps, baseline set-up), Run 3: Used Prime (5 laps, set-up test), Run 4: Used Prime (4 laps, aero set-up test) Runs P2: Run 1: New Prime (6 laps, tyre evaluations), Run 2: Used Prime (6 laps, set-up test), Run 3: Used Prime (6 laps, aero set-up test), Run 4: New Option (6 laps, tyre evaluation), Run 5: Used Option (9 laps, race set-up) I was very surprised by Silverstone today. I really love this circuit, it is one of my favourites, but it’s really, really bumpy. It’s quite odd and I’m sorry to say this because I’m usually such a fan. We weren’t anticipating such a bumpy track, so we had to make a lot of unexpected set-up changes in response. The team handled it well though and did a good job today. Nico Hulkenberg Runs P1: Run 1: New Prime (1 lap, install), Run 2: Used Prime (6 laps, baseline set-up), Run 3: Used Prime (7 laps, set-up test), Run 4: Used Prime (5 laps, aero set-up) Runs P2: Run 1: New Prime (7 laps, tyre evaluation), Run 2: Used Prime (6 laps, aero set-up test), Run 3: New Option (6 laps, tyre evaluation), Run 4: Used Option (10 laps, race set-up) It went ok today. We worked through our run plan and covered everything we needed to, even though I was delayed starting the afternoon session. The car had a gearbox oil leak but the mechanics managed to fix it really quickly so I didn’t lose a great deal of time. I’m not quite happy with the car as it is at the moment, so we’ll be working hard tonight, analysing the data so we improve for tomorrow. BRITISH GRAND PRIX QUALIFYING SATURDAY 10 JULY, 2010 The AT&T Williams team capitalised on an intense two days of practice validating a significant package of car upgrades with a strong performance from Rubens Barrichello who will start tomorrow’s race from P8. Rubens’ team-mate, Nico Hulkenberg, had a more coloured session this afternoon, struggling with car performance and unfortunately baulked on his final pair of timed laps at the end of Q2. Without a clean run on option tyres, he could do no better than 13th. Rubens Barrichello: Top eight in qualifying is a good effort by the team. We still have to improve but today’s result is satisfying and probably the best we could hope for. I hope we can get into the top six tomorrow. The cars are all very close, and there aren’t too many overtaking opportunities around the lap, so it’s going to be a good battle. The upgrades are all working well, but they need more development if we are to move higher up the field. Nico Hulkenberg: Traffic really destroyed qualifying for me today. As I was going into the first corner on a quick lap in Q2, Liuzzi exited the pitlane under blue flags but didn’t move out of my way. That ruined my lap from the outset as I couldn’t get past him. I also struggled with the car today. I don’t know why and I’ll be looking into that with my engineers now. Sam Michael, Technical Director: That was a good qualifying by Rubens. It was a shame that Nico didn't go through to Q3. All the new parts have improved the cars’ pace but, as usual, we need to keep working hard on the whole car package. Our focus is now on the race and scoring points tomorrow.
