A REDDITCH company has been honoured at a prestigious awards ceremony.

Redditch based AE Oscroft & Sons Ltd was overall runner-up at the Made in the Midlands awards, celebrating the very best manufacturing has to offer,

The firm is a progressive presswork engineering company with more than 60 years experience supplying quality metal pressings, assemblies and prototype projects.

The family owned business recently invested £2m and in doing so successfully expanded and re-sited from an 18,000 sq ft property to a 53,500 sq ft property.

Managing director of the company Chris Oscroft said: “This is amazing and great surprise.

"We supply the world with products made in this region and we’d like to thank Made in the Midlands for bringing the companies that do it together to create opportunities for collaboration.”

The firm was not the only local success story honoured at the awards.

Inspirational women were also honoured for their success and their encouragement to the next generation of female engineers.

The winner was Linda Bates a project director at B. Hepworth in Redditch.

Her skills have helped the company to become one of the leading suppliers of bespoke wipers to the rail industry.

Charles Addison, from Made in the Midlands, said: “Manufacturers in this region are doing great things that they simply regard as a normal days work.

"To some extent, that’s quite right, but it’s our duty to ensure that their stories demonstrate that we still make things here in the Midlands and make them better than anybody else.”

He added “Chris Oscroft said in his acceptance speech that the Midlands based manufacturers within the room, collectively, have the skills to make absolutely anything - I couldn’t agree more.”

The award ceremony, in its sixth year, took place at Wolverhampton Science Park.
