Pop-up shop opens to tackle teen unemployment in Dudley

A POP-up shop offering help to unemployed teenagers has opened in Dudley.

Training experts BCTG have taken over an empty unit in Stone Street until November 23, in a bid to help get the borough’s teenagers into education, training or employment.

The shop, which was officially launched by Dudley North MP Ian Austin, is open Wednesday to Saturday and is manned by staff from training providers NACRO, Rathbone, Nova, St Thomas Network, Groundwork, Landau, YMCA as well as BASE Studios and Targeted Training Projects.

Chris Luty, BCTG director, said: “This is a very cost-effective way for us to provide a short-term centre for seven of the training providers we work with in the borough, to attract teenagers and tell them about the options available to them.

“We tend to find that a lot of young people need advice at this time of the year because they have either left school and have still not got a place at college or an apprenticeship or have dropped out having made the wrong choice.

"We would urge them to make the most of the pop-up shop and come in and see advisers who are there to help.”
