STUDENTS at Holly Hall Academy were given an insight into the life of an Olympic medallist when gymnast Kristian Thomas swung by for a visit.

Kristian, who won a bronze medal during the recent London Olympics stopped off at the Scotts Green Close school to discuss his achievements with year seven students during a question and answer session.

The 23-year-old Wolverhampton-born athlete, who trains for between 25 and 30 hours a week, is coached at Earls Gymnastic Club by former Holly Hall PE teacher, Michelle Bradley.

As part of his visit, Kristian also met 12 of the Academy’s gifted and talented sports students.

Denise Malone, acting principal, said: “We were all absolutely thrilled Kristian agreed to come and visit us and all the students were overwhelmed at meeting him.

“He did a presentation before the students were able to question him about his training regime, diet, commitment and what life was really like in the Olympic village and he happily answered them all.

“It was a privilege to meet him and see a real Olympic medal.”
