DUDLEY Council’s adventure man, Mike Crannage, is putting in final training for his next epic charity challenge.

The superfit Mayoral attendant will be racing through 150 miles of South American jungle when he jets off to Costa Rica on February 2 as part of the gruelling 10 day Costa Rica coast to coast challenge.

During the fundraiser the 53 year-old will trek, run, climb, abseil and swim the equivalent of almost six marathons through some of the most hazardous terrain to raise money for the Mayor’s chosen charities - Diabetes UK: Stourbridge, Dudley and District Support Group and the Dudley Stroke Association.

No stranger to putting himself to the test, over the last two years Mike has already braved freezing temperatures to take part in a husky trek across the North Pole, while running 150 miles through the Sahara Desert, in sweltering temperatures and towering sand dunes – all in aid of various mayoral chosen charities.

The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Melvyn Mottram, has urged people to sponsor Mike for his latest adventure.

Cllr Mottram said: “It’s very easy for people to get involved with so many different ways to sponsor Mike. All I would ask is that people give what they can.

“I’m delighted he has decided to help out these very worthwhile causes, and I hope people will do what they can to support him.”
