11:50am Monday 14th January 2013 in Local
A 40 YEAR-old man is in a critical condition in hospital this morning after being punched and knocked out by a driver, following a nasty incident in Woodside yesterday.
The pedestrian was floored by a single punch after urging a driver of a white 4x4 to slow down in Newland Grove at around 3pm on Sunday.
The driver pulled over and approached the man and left him critically ill with a serious head injury.
The suspect was wearing grey jogging bottoms and a grey top and was driving a distinctive white 4x4 with black roof bars and silver alloy wheels.
A 25-year-old man was later arrested at an address in Netherton and is being questioned by officers in connection with the attack.
Detective Inspector Gary Dring, of Force CID, said: "This was a vicious assault which has left the victim with a very serious head injury.
"We want to hear from anyone who saw the car in the area or anyone who witnessed the assault. If you have any information that could help our investigation, please call us as soon as possible on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
